Every Question You've Ever Had About Lash Extensions Answered

Let's face it, who doesn't want eyelashes that are a bit thicker, more fluttery, and luscious? Thankfully, these days there are a number of options to enhance your fringe, whether that's with a good mascara or a pair of false eyelashes. Don't want to have to deal with mascara or falsies every day? There is another, longer-lived option: eyelash extensions.
Like long-wearing fake eyelashes, extensions are designed to lift and enhance the shape of your eye—think of it as contouring but for your peepers. And, as a bonus, once you have them applied, you really don't need to worry about slapping on eyeliner or eye makeup, as the work of getting a dramatic lash line has already been done for you.

What are lash extensions?
Lash extensions are semi-permanent, synthetic, faux mink or silk fibers that are applied strand by strand with specially formulated non-irritating glue to your own lashes to enhance your eye shape.Traditional false eyelashes, which you remove after each use, are applied directly to the skin and have pre-designed depth and layers that don't take your unique eye shape into account. Extensions, on the other hand, attach to the lashes themselves, so they grow out naturally and can be customized to create specific depth and elongation to your eye shape for the exact effect you crave.

Do lash extensions damage your natural lashes?
Simply put: no, extensions alone will not cause damage to your natural lashes. Lashes can be damaged as a result of improper extension application or by the stylist not selecting the correct type of extension based on the conditions of the natural lash.
There are a few main factors that contribute to this problem. For example, applying lashes that are too heavy for the natural lash will ultimately end in premature shedding. Rubbing your eyes will also result in immediate breakage.

How long can you keep extensions on for?
With proper care extensions can last up to 5 weeks before they shed. The shedding cycle will happen in tandem with your natural hair-growth cycle, which generally turns over around every 6 to 8 weeks. To maintain the full-lashed effect in the long term, refills are a great way to extend the life of your lashes and are recommended every 2 to 3 weeks.

Is there anything you shouldn't do when you have extensions?
Avoid: oil based products and heavy creams around the eyes. And if you can, try to avoid touching your extensions. If you're removing your eye makeup with cleanser, it should be oil-free. That goes for makeup remover too. We are recommending to use Lash Shampoo for cleaning the lashes

Classic lashes:
These are the workhorses of the lash world–always reliable, pretty and natural-looking extensions. Classic lashes are individually applied in a 1:1 ratio on the natural lash, perfect for those who are looking for a subtle and simple eye enhancement. The great thing about classic lashes is how they can fit into your everyday routine–there is a classic lash material and style for everyone, and our technicians always love to chat so they can tailor classic lashes to your needs! Classic lashes come in three different designs to maximise your options. Classic lashes are a great everyday choice, soft with a slightly glossy look–they’re always a great option for lash newbies, to get a sense of how lash extensions will look and feel on the eye.

Classic lashes also come in a variety of thicknesses, with some individual lashes longer in diameter than others for a truly customised look. Because of the 1:1 application technique, classic lashes can be applied very naturally or reasonably thickly, depending on how many natural lashes we have to work with–remember, we can only apply extensions to the natural lashes you already have, so those with naturally fine or sparse lashes may be happier looking into the volume technique.

Volume lashes:
If you’ve seen those models on Instagram with luscious, so-full-it’s-crazy lashes, chances are you’re checking out a volume set! Originating from Russian technicians, this technique involves super-light extensions applied in fans to the natural lash, creating dark sweeps of lashes that really have that wow factor! Recent developments in lash technology have made volume lashes the lightest on the market, an amazing opportunity for lash stylists to create the most flexible lash extension sets for you. At Confiance By Meni, we hand make each of our volume fans within the appointment, meaning that we can make truly bespoke lashes that bring out the best in your eyes! Fans can range between natural volume, with two or Seven lashes to a fan (also known as the 2D-7D in lash jargon), Light Volume Set, Medium Volume Set or Full Volume Set.
Volume lashes aren’t just for people looking for uber thick lashes either–the technique also enables gorgeous natural-looking enhancements to be created, which can be wonderful for everyday fullness or those going on holidays. The fan technique used in volume sets is special because it snaps to your lashes perfectly for great retention–which means less time spent on infills! As the fans are made within the appointment, they bond beautifully to any natural lash—thick or thin, slender or strong, volume lashes really are great options for everyone.

Hybrid eyelash extensions:
A 50/60 mixture of 1:1 lashes and the handmade fanned, volume style lashes (NOT cluster lashes popped on – this is cheating and terrible for the natural lashes!) they are stunning, texturized and give a life-like, non-uniform lash look. Also referred to as a ‘mixed set’, they are versatile in offering a thicker, denser look than classic lashes, but without the uniformity and softness of a typical Russian volume set.
They can also be a great way to achieve that staggered look made popular by Kim Kardashian, by using longer classic extensions interspersed with shorter volume lashes. They’re perfect for anyone wanting to add a bit of extra drama to their classic set, or for anyone wanting to test out volume lashes without fully committing. They are great for anyone with naturally fine or slightly gappy lashes, whereby volume fans can be placed in sparser areas to make the lash line look fuller. If you’ve been thinking of upgrading your classic set, we can pretty much guarantee you will love hybrid lashes!
